Cal Bierman

It’s been an over fifty-year friendship with KRNT and me. KRNT was always welcome at the Bierman breakfast table when I was a kid in the 1960s. Other memories including listening to Dean Martin croon over KRNT on the way to the Iowa State Fair, and, at the age of 7, being interviewed by KRNT’s Russ Van Dyke as my grandma and I came out of a downtown department store (Yes, there were department stores in downtown Des Moines).

I finally visited KRNT during my Grand View College (now Grand View University) days, when I was also working at Iowa Public Television and KSO radio. Then I had fun in Fort Dodge radio, and played easy-listening music in Ames until I came to KRNT professionally in 1988. That was the same year I married Cynthia, and she, KRNT, and me have been together ever since.

Through the years, I’ve created thousands of commercials for KRNT and the other 5 stations in the Des Moines Radio Group. And, of course, KRNT is on at home, when I’m not listening to ABBA, Herb Alpert, Manhattan Transfer or Leon Redbone. Or watching DVDs of classic television… you guessed it… commercials. And, when we can, Cynthia and I slip off to explore Los Angeles soundstages, play at the mouse’s house in Orlando, or dodge Witchita tornados on the way to Amarillo family visits.
